Biography

James Purcell is an author, lecturer and sustainable finance practitioner. Born in Brighton, United Kingdom, his career has taken him through major financial cities, including London, Hong Kong and Zurich.

James was the Deputy Chief Sustainability Officer at Credit Suisse and a member of the group's Sustainability Leadership Committee. In this role he led the firm's approach to sustainable investing and lending, and oversaw the green asset pool and associated publicly traded green bonds and notes.

 

Prior, James was a Managing Director and the Global Head of Sustainable and Impact Investing at UBS Wealth Management. At UBS he served on the management committee of the Chief Investment Office and held a number of senior multi-asset investment roles. Under his stewardship UBS Wealth Management won variants of Best Private Bank for sustainable investing from Euromoney, Asia Private Banker, and Financial Times publications.

James graduated from the University of Oxford with a BA (honours) in Modern History and graduated from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business with an MBA (high honours). He lives in Zurich, Switzerland with his young son and spends his summers on a paddle board and winters in the mountains.
